General Information:

So what is Independent and Supported Living?
These are services that help you to live independent, productive lives within the community of your choice.

What types of assistance/support can be provided?
Sometimes, to live as independently as possible, a person may need extra help learning how to budget. Some people have never learned how to plan balanced meals, shop for necessary items, or prepare a variety of foods. We can provide instruction in this area. Negotiating issues related to Social Security, Medi-Cal, Section 8, In Home Support Services, etc. can be confusing and many individuals ask us to assist in these areas when problems arise. These are just a few examples of areas where services can be provided.

Who pays for these services?
Our services are funded through the Regional Center system. If you are not a part of this system, call your local Regional Center and speak to someone in the intake unit. If you are not eligible for Regional Center services, we also accept private payment.

How do I arrange for these services?
Contact your counselor at Regional Center and request a meeting to discuss increased independence and the possibility of moving out in the future. You can also call the Independent Focus, Inc. office for more information.

How soon can instruction begin?

Life skills instruction can begin while you live at home and continue after you move out. We help you target and achieve the goals that you want to reach. If you already live independently, we can get started right away.

How often will instruction sessions take place?
Instruction will be provided based upon the goals you choose and how much help you might need. You and your instructor decide on a schedule that will work for you.
How does instruction change once an individual has moved out on their own?
Instruction is generally increased but is based upon the kind of support you need to live independently. Often personal goals begin as a combination of training and support. However, as skills advance, instruction is focused in different areas and some of the old goals are just checked on a maintenance basis.
