Independent
Focus, Inc. consists of several program components. The majority of our
clients are served under our Supported Living Service. Clients who are
currently living independently or are planning to move into an independent
living situation are served under this component. Clients who are parents
and have legal custodial rights are also served.
Another component is Independent Living Skills which includes training,
connect and monitor services. Generally, clients who live with parents
or other family members are served in this category. Independent Focus
provides training to prepare an individual to move into an independent
living situation. Should an individual need assistance ‘connecting’ to
services in their community, we can also provide that service on a
short term basis. Examples might be, connecting with benefits, the
local adult school or community college, or a volunteer job. Lastly, we
can provide ‘monitoring’ services to an individual who, for example,
may live at home with elderly parents who might not be able to provide
all that’s needed to live safely in the home.
Independent Focus, Inc. provides Mobility Assessment and Training to individuals
who have a desire to become increasingly independent within the setting
of their choice. We will evaluate current skills, including safety issues,
and assess the individual’s strengths and areas where additional
training would be beneficial. Our experienced staff will then provide
the training necessary for the individual to get to their chosen destinations
safely.
The Spot:
Independent Focus, Inc. sponsors and administers "The Spot", a social
recreational community based club available in the South Bay, Long
Beach and Bellflower. "The Spot" began approximately seven years ago
through a grant Independent Focus received from Harbor Regional Center.
The purpose was to serve individuals who were not comfortable utilizing
the existing community recreational services. "The Spot" received
another grant from Harbor Regional Center to expand recreational
opportunities to the North-East area. We hope to be in our new
permanent club space located at 9727 Flower St., Bellflower, CA, 90706
by September 15, 2001. Clients
govern "The Spot" and plan the monthly activities. "The
Spot" combines site based activities such as ping pong, billiards,
etc. with community outings, day trips, and two and three day vacations.
"The Spot" is geared toward individuals who are relatively independent
in their community.
